April–May: Spring, rivers full, flowers in bloom.
June–August: Peak season. Everything accessible including upper valley to Kel and Taobat.
September–October: Autumn colours in Arang Kel meadows. Fewer crowds. Excellent choice.

Neelum is a photographer’s paradise but the best shots need timing. The Kutton Waterfall is fullest in June-July after the snowmelt peak. Keran across-river views of Indian Kashmir village photograph best in the mid-morning golden hour. Arang Kel meadows are most photogenic in September when the wildflowers peak and the light stays soft all day. Drone use is restricted in Neelum Valley due to LOC proximity — check current regulations and get proper permissions before packing one.

Local Food to Try on the Neelum Route

The valley has its own food culture worth stopping for. Local trout (from farms along the river) is the specialty — grilled fresh, served with rice and salad, particularly in Sharda and Kel restaurants.
