Islamabad is a driver’s dream β wide roads, disciplined traffic (mostly), and some of the country’s best day-trip destinations right on its doorstep. But if you’ve never rented a car in the capital before, the choices can feel overwhelming. Corolla or Grande? With driver or without? Airport pickup or self-arrange? Rates swing anywhere from Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 25,000 a day depending on who you ask.
At Al Sabir Travel & Tours, we’ve been running rental cars in and out of Islamabad for years, and we get these questions every day. So instead of another generic “top 5 tips” article, let’s walk you through the whole thing the way we’d explain it to a friend calling us on WhatsApp.
Islamabad is arguably the easiest Pakistani city to drive in. The sectors are laid out on a grid, road signage is decent, and traffic β outside of Blue Area and Faizabad in peak hours β actually moves. Compare that to old Lahore or downtown Karachi and you’ll appreciate what the capital offers.
More importantly, Islamabad is the gateway to Pakistan’s best road-trip country. Murree is 45 minutes away. Naran and Kaghan are about 6 hours up the Hazara Motorway. Hunza is a day’s drive on the Karakoram Highway. Even if you’re only staying for a weekend, a rental car means you can slip out to Saidpur Village for dinner, drive up to Daman-e-Koh for sunset, or take the family to Lake View Park without haggling with a Careem driver every 30 minutes.
Our fleet in Islamabad covers pretty much every budget and use case:
Let’s be honest β in Pakistan, over 90% of car rentals go out with a driver, and there’s a reason. Insurance, parking headaches, unfamiliar routes if you’re not from the city, and the sheer stress of driving on Rawalpindi’s back roads all point to a driver being the smarter choice.
At Al Sabir, all our drivers have valid LTV licenses, at least 5 years of experience, and know the northern routes cold. They also handle fuel top-ups, small repairs, and the inevitable checkpoint stops on the way to Gilgit-Baltistan.
Self-drive is technically possible but usually requires a security deposit of Rs. 30,000+ and a clean CNIC record. We only recommend it if you’re an experienced driver who already knows the routes you plan to take.
Islamabad International Airport (ISB) is roughly 25 km from the city center, and finding reliable transport at 2 AM after a long-haul flight is exactly nobody’s idea of fun. Our airport pickup and drop-off service runs 24/7 β you send us your flight number, and the driver is waiting at the arrivals gate with a name placard before you even clear immigration.
Prices are transparent. Islamabad airport to F-6/F-7 sector: around Rs. 3,500 in a Corolla. To Rawalpindi Saddar: Rs. 4,000. To Murree: Rs. 8,500 (one-way drop). No “airport surcharge surprise” that some operators pull.
One of our most-booked services from Islamabad is the one-way drop. You take the car with driver, we drop you at your destination city, and you don’t pay for the return leg. Common routes:
These prices are with driver only. Fuel and tolls are billed separately at actual consumption. No hidden charges. You can also do a two-way (round trip) where the car and driver stay with you the whole trip β usually more economical for tours longer than 3 days.
Important: All rates below are quoted with a professional driver but excluding fuel. Fuel is paid separately by the customer at actual consumption. Driver meals: Rs. 500 per day (in-city) / Rs. 2,000 per day (outstation).
All rates above are per day with a professional driver. Fuel is paid separately by the customer at actual consumption. Prices may vary during wedding season (NovemberβFebruary), Eid holidays and summer tour peaks. Book at least 5β7 days ahead in peak season.
Booking with us is straightforward. Three options:
We ask for a small advance (usually 25β30% of the total) to confirm the booking, and the rest is paid on delivery. Cash, JazzCash, EasyPaisa and bank transfer all work.
Some honest pointers from people who’ve been doing this for years:
Yes. Our booking hotline and airport pickup service run round the clock, including weekends and holidays.
Absolutely. Minimum booking is 10 hours, and we happily do single-day rentals for corporate meetings, airport visits and short tours.
Yes β one of our most popular routes. We do both one-way drop and full round-trip tours, with cars ranging from Corolla to Land Cruiser to Grand Cabin. See our Kaghan Naran Babusar service page for details.
For chauffeur-driven rentals, usually no. For self-drive, yes β typically Rs. 30,000, refunded on return.
For 4β5 people, a Toyota Prado or Fortuner. For 8β12 people, the Toyota Hiace Grand Cabin. For bigger groups, the Coaster.
